California corrections officials are searching for a 37-year-old man who walked away from a community reentry facility in Los Angeles County on Saturday morning, according to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR).

Jeremy D. Hendricks was last seen around 11:15 a.m. on Sept. 27 near 37th Street and Hill Street after tampering with his ankle monitor, CDCR said in a statement. Staff at the Male Community Reentry Program (MCRP) facility conducted an emergency count and confirmed that Hendricks was missing. The CDCR’s Office of Correctional Safety and local law enforcement agencies were immediately notified and are assisting in the search.

Hendricks is described as 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighing 185 pounds, with brown eyes and black hair. He was last seen wearing a black short-sleeve shirt, black pants and black shoes.

Anyone who sees him or has information about his whereabouts is urged to call 911 or contact CDCR Special Agent Abraham Villasenor at 760-936-1851.

CDCR records show that Hendricks was received from Los Angeles County on Oct. 11, 2012, to serve a 20-year sentence for assault with a semiautomatic firearm, with a firearm-use enhancement, and second-degree robbery, both as a second striker.

He had been housed at the Los Angeles MCRP since Aug. 13 of this year, where eligible offenders serve the final portion of their sentences while receiving rehabilitative services to help transition back into the community.

The department noted that since 1977, 99 percent of people who have escaped or walked away from adult institutions, camps, contract facilities or community reentry programs have been apprehended.
