A months-long investigation by Ventura County law enforcement led to the arrest of a Canoga Park man accused of selling drugs to juveniles in Thousand Oaks, authorities said.

Detectives with the Thousand Oaks Directed Enforcement Unit (DEU) began investigating 23-year-old Arcenio Zuniga-Moncada in July after receiving information that he was selling controlled substances to local residents, including minors, according to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office.

On Sept. 24, DEU detectives arrested Zuniga-Moncada and recovered a quantity of controlled substances packaged for sale, along with other evidence that investigators say supports allegations of narcotics sales. The arrest was assisted by the East County Sexual Assault Unit and the Ventura County Narcotics Street Team.

Zuniga-Moncada was booked at the Ventura County Pre-Trial Detention Facility on suspicion of selling marijuana to a minor and possession of controlled substances for sale, sheriff’s officials said. He remains in custody at the Ventura County Main Jail with bail set at $65,000.

Authorities noted that marijuana use by adolescents can have harmful effects on brain development, memory, attention and decision-making, and may increase the risk of dependency and other mental health issues.

Anyone with information about criminal activity in the area is asked to contact Detective Jonathan San Jose at 805-371-8388.
