HARTSELLE, Ala. (WHNT) — Crowds drawn to the vintage, the odd and the downright creepy are captivated with Eatin’ in the Attic for its American cuisine and unique atmosphere.

Enter this Hartselle restaurant/candy store and you’ll find every type of knick-knack imaginable. From vintage clothing and furniture, to dolls that may give you a fright on the way to the restroom.

It’s these oddities that attract customers like Silvia Peters and Karen Comer.

“We looked through the door, and it looked very unusual, and I said, ‘Let’s check it out,’” Peters said. “Actually, you cannot stop looking. I said, ‘Wow, look at that one! Look at the lights over there!’ It’s very unusual.”

The duo meets for lunch every week and decided after exploring Hartselle Depot Days, that Eatin’ in the Attic was next on their list.

“We like to try new things,” Comer added.

This was her second time in the restaurant, and both customers said it won’t be their last.

Just when you think the atmosphere couldn’t get any more eclectic, try eating next to the resident ghost. Oh, and he has a name, too.

“There’s a ghost that our employees have named Nathaniel,” owner Scott Adner said. “He hangs out over in the corner for the most part. A lot of our employees have witnessed things happening that they can’t explain.”

Co-owner Sheri Adner has seen a thing or two herself. However, both owners remain skeptical.

“There’s a lot of times where people feel like someone’s standing behind ’em, and you turn around and there’s no one there,” Sheri said. “I have actually experienced that once or twice, but not as much as some of our employees. He’s a friendly ghost.”

Spirits roaming the property are just part of the appeal, and it turns out that Nathaniel is even responsible for bringing in a customer or two.

“I posted on the website and we had a lady walking around,” Scott said. “I asked her if she was looking for something, and she said, ‘Nathaniel!’”

Eatin’ in the Attic will offer its first murder mystery dinner on Oct. 17. For more details about that event and a look at the menu, click here.
