An off-duty New York City police officer shot a man in Penn Station in Manhattan who attempted to rob her and another officer on Wednesday evening, the police said.
The two off-duty officers were waiting in plain clothes for the train on a Long Island Rail Road platform when a 32-year-old man attempted to rob them around 7 p.m., a Police Department spokesman said.
One of the officers pulled out her firearm and shot the man in the arm, the spokesman said. The man was hospitalized in stable condition. The officers sustained minor injuries.
It was unclear if the man had a weapon at the time of the attempted robbery, the spokesman said. The man was detained but has not been charged.
The police advised people to avoid West 34th Street between Seventh and Eighth Avenues, and to expect delays and heavy traffic in the area.
