Last week, Seriesly Berlin took the bold step of hosting a panel that featured Israeli and Palestinian creatives talking about collaboration, creativity and how the devastation in Gaza has impacted them personally and professionally.

Titled ‘Stories For Tomorrow: How Collaborative Palestinian And Israeli Writing Transforms Television,’ the session was held in association with the ALBI Fund’s Shared Society on the Small Screen program, which seeks to explore and expand how identity is portrayed and understood on screen.

On the panel were Arab-Israeli actor-director Yousef Sweid (The Goat, Between the River and the Sea), Non-Issue co-creators and Palestinian-Israeli couple Nayef Hammoud and Gal Rosenbluth, ALBI program director and TV producer Keren Michael, and ALBI founder Libby Lenkinski. Germany-based Journalist Vivian Perkovic moderated.

They took to the stage on Thursday morning at the Fotografiska in Germany’s capital, and held an open and honest discussion about their craft and how the ongoing violence in the region has impacted it. A packed audience were moved to tears, laughter and quiet reflection during a powerful hour of conversation.

With Palestine’s filmmaking industry barely functioning following nearly two years of Israeli bombings and Israel’s producers finding it increasingly hard to operate in an environment where sympathy is turning sharply against Benjamin Netanyahu’s right-wing government, the chance for dialog was welcome.

Above, you can watch the entire panel, which Seriesly Berlin has supplied to us. Deadline was on the ground for the event, which has developed a reputation for assembling more daring conference schedules than many rivals. You can read all of our coverage from the second edition of the event here.
