A gothic and gritty new vision of a classic horror story is coming to the big screen. Writer-director Maggie Gyllenhaal, the creative force behind The Lost Daughter, has released the official teaser for her highly anticipated film, The Bride, a bold and iconoclastic take on the myth of Frankenstein. The teaser promises a film that is as visually stunning as it is unsettling, with an incredible ensemble cast.

The film stars Oscar-winner Christian Bale as a lonely Frankenstein who travels to 1930s Chicago in search of a companion. With the help of the groundbreaking scientist Dr. Euphronious, played by five-time Oscar nominee Annette Bening, he reanimates a murdered young woman, The Bride, brought to life by Oscar-nominee Jessie Buckley, is born. The teaser reveals a haunting narrative that spirals into a world of murder, possession, and a wild and combustible romance between the two reanimated figures. The story is inspired by James Whale’s Bride of Frankenstein as well as Mary Shelley’s 1818 Frankenstein novel of the same name The Bride.

The film is bolstered by a supporting cast that includes Peter Sarsgaard, Oscar winner Penélope Cruz, and Oscar nominee Jake Gyllenhaal. With its blend of period-piece aesthetic and radical horror, The Bride is set to be a major cinematic event. The film, which promises to be an extraordinary and modern exploration of identity and love, is set to be released in theaters on March 6. Watch the official teaser trailer above.
