DECATUR, Ala. (WHNT) — The results are in, and Pam Werstler will be taking over the seat held in Decatur by Hunter Pepper.

Werstler, who took on Sarah French for the seat, ended up with nearly 63% of the vote.

News 19 spoke to Werstler following her win, and she said she is more than ready to get to work and serve the people in District 4.

“It’s kind of like what I’ve been talking about. Going into the district and keep looking for things that are going well and praising those that are and doing the good stuff, and also looking for things that need improvement and getting those things that need to be improved as well, and having meetings with the constituents,” she said.

French also sent News 19 a statement conceding the race:

“God is good — all the time.

I fought for this city and this district for the right reasons, and my people know that. There’s a deep-rooted evil we’ve been fighting in this city for a long time — and over the past few weeks, it’s shown itself more clearly than ever.

This city has often been about its leaders and stakeholders. I simply worked to make it about the people. And they couldn’t handle that.

I gave it everything I had. But sometimes, corruption wins. That doesn’t mean we stop fighting. Because the truth will keep coming to light.

Decatur will never flourish — and it will not be blessed — until it turns away from corruption. I pray for this city, and especially for the people who continue to go unheard and unrepresented.

Never settle for being treated unfairly. Speak up. Use your voice.

Thank you all for your support. I appreciate every one of you.”

Sarah French

Werstler is no stranger to government at the city level, having spent over a decade in the planning department.
