LAWRENCE COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) — A father is injured and a son was killed following a fight between the two that happened on Monday night.
Around 9 p.m., Lawrence County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a domestic disturbance in the 100 block of County Road 214 in the Langtown Community.
Upon arrival, deputies found a 40-year-old man dead in the front yard of the home.
LCSO said that deputies also found an 85-year-old man who had received significant injuries from an alleged assault.
The 85-year-old man was transported by air ambulance to a local hospital. His condition is unknown at this time.
According to the sheriff’s office, a preliminary investigation indicated that the 40-year-old man who was killed was the son of the injured man.
LCSO told News 19 that they believe a fight started inside the father’s home and spilled out into the front yard.
According to statements, the son began to assault his father with a metal rod, possibly a piece of rebar. The father was able to retreat and defend himself using a revolver.
Authorities said that the son was shot three times and was pronounced dead at the scene. According to the sheriff’s office, the son’s body is being transported to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences in Huntsville for an autopsy.
After the incident, the father was able to drive to a nearby home, where a neighbor called 911.
The incident remains under investigation by the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office.
