Netflix has debuted the trailer of the upcoming documentary My Father The BTK Killer, directed by Unknown Number: The High School Catfish‘s Skye Borgman.

The docu film is based on the book A Serial Killer’s Daughter: My Story of Faith, Love and Overcoming, written by BTK’s own daughter Kerri Rawson. It explores the story of Dennis Rader, known as BTK (Bind, Torture, Kill) through the eyes of his daughter, and how his crimes impacted his own family and community. For Rawson, it was also about facing the reality that Rader may have had more victims than he claimed, and that her own childhood memories may have hidden trauma.

“The film weaves together interviews with the investigators who helped uncover BTK’s identity and features chilling archival photos and sketches, and interrogation footage of Rader himself,” Netflix continued. “Throughout, Kerri’s personal reflections on her relationship with her father both before and since his arrest and conviction shed light on the enduring impact of his crimes and her own healing journey.”

Rader committed 10 brutal murders in the Wichita, Kansas area between 1974 and 1991, and would send the media cryptic messages with details about the crimes. He stopped communicating in the ’90s and remained under the radar until the early 2000s; he resumed his messages due to his need for recognition, and metadata in a floppy disk ultimately led to his arrest in February 2005.

Watch the trailer above. My Father The BTK Killer premieres October 10 on Netflix.
