PHOENIX – A manhunt is underway after a deadly shooting Monday morning in the East Valley town of Guadalupe.
The scene in a neighborhood near Guadalupe Road and Interstate 10 remains active, according to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies initially responded to the area for a shooting call around 8:30 a.m.
A SWAT team set up a perimeter at a house near Calle Bella Vista and Calle Barbarita.
“At this point, we know that this person is deceased right outside the home,” Sgt. Joaquin Enriquez told reporters at the scene. “Homicide detectives haven’t even got a chance to go up to the scene and see what’s going on.”
Deadly shooting investigation continues
Enriquez said to expect a heavy law enforcement presence in the area for an extended time.
“The SWAT team takes priority because we need to make sure that everything around the area is safe if there is a suspect inside,” he said.
Guadalupe is a small town with about 5,000 residents tucked between Tempe and Phoenix’s Ahwatukee neighborhood.
“This is a very tight-knit community,” Enriquez said. “Our hope is that if someone has any information in reference to what happened today that they’ll call the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office.”
