PHOENIX – Monday is the first day of fall, but that doesn’t mean the Phoenix area is through with summer-like weather.
The day started with an autumnal splash, as parts of the Valley woke to scattered showers, but near-record high temperatures aren’t far off.
“For today, there will be some showers out there, mainly going to affect probably western portions and northern portions of Phoenix. That’s just a few showers this morning. It’s probably not going to amount to a whole lot,” Chris Kuhlman of the National Weather Service in Phoenix told KTAR News 92.3 FM early Monday.
“And the rest of the area will likely stay dry. By this afternoon, I think the rain should mostly come to an end and we’ll see clearing skies.”
How hot will Phoenix get during the first week of fall?
The Phoenix forecast calls for a high of 99 degrees on Monday, which is normal for this time of year, with a warming trend to follow.
“We’ll see quite a bit of sun through midweek, with highs as high as 107 in Phoenix on Wednesday,” Kuhlman said.
For context, Wednesday’s record high for the date is 108 degrees. It was first set in 2002 and matched in 2024.
Highs are expected to drop back into the 90s toward the end of the week, with the possibility of rain returning to the forecast.
“We’ll see a low-pressure system that will come back into Arizona Thursday into Friday, and by then we’ll probably see a rain chances back into the picture at least by Friday, for sure,” Kuhlman said. “Right now, there’s still quite a bit of uncertainty with it, but that could present a decent chance for thunderstorms later this week.”
