Summary

  • JW Anderson, Wedgwood and the Estate of Lucie Rie released a limited-edition collection
  • It features Lucie Rie’s unproduced 1964 Jasperware teacups and saucers in classic blue-white, as well as Jonathan’s Anderson’s Greek-inspired mugs

Jonathan Anderson, Wedgwood and the Estate of Lucie Rie have united to realize a long-lost design by the celebrated 20th-century potter: a never-produced series of Jasperware teacups and saucers. Originally conceived for Wedgwood in 1964, these pieces now emerge in the brand’s signature blue with crisp white inlays, offered as both teacup-and-saucer and coffee-cup-and-saucer sets.

Alongside Lucie Rie’s revived designs, the collaboration debuts Jonathan Anderson’s personal trove of 5th-century Greek–inspired mugs, plus two first-time accessories for the label: a washed-cotton cap and a hybrid tote-shoulder bag. Each object maintains a dialogue between historical reference and contemporary reinterpretation, underscoring the shared reverence for craft that unites all three partners.

Every piece is handcrafted by Wedgwood’s master artisans using time-honored turning techniques. Clay is molded, dried to a “leather-hard” state, then meticulously trimmed and smoothed on a lathe — echoing Rie’s purposeful imperfections and functional elegance. The mug range arrives in three two-tone pairings – Blue/Saxon Blue, Chocolate Brown/Black, and Canary Yellow/Mimosa Yellow – while the Lucie Rie cups and saucers feature delicate white sgraffito against a tactile matte finish.

“Lucie Rie is one of the greatest potters of the 20th century,” reflects Anderson. “I believe she would be thrilled to see these designs finally brought to life, especially as part of a project giving back.” Proceeds from the special collection will support the new Lucie Rie and Hans Coper Foundation, dedicated to preserving and digitizing archival materials and funding academic and creative scholarships.

The Jonathan Anderson & Wedgwood Special Collection is currently available via Wedgewood and JW Anderson‘s webstores. It’s also stocked at select Wedgwood boutiques in the U.S., Japan and China, select department stores in the U.K, as well as JW Anderson stores in London, Milan and Tokyo.
