A man accused of breaking into a West Hollywood apartment and killing a resident’s dog earlier this month has been arrested, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department confirmed Sunday.

Anmol Bhatia was taken into custody around 7 p.m. near Wilshire Boulevard and Elm Drive, according to LASD. Officials have not yet released details about how deputies located him or what led to the arrest.

The investigation began on the night of Sept. 4, when deputies responded to a burglary call on the 1200 block of North Harper Avenue. The resident told deputies that someone had broken in and that his dog, left alone while he was away, was dead.

Video surveillance from inside the apartment captured the suspect entering the residence shortly after 11:30 p.m. The footage showed the intruder abusing the small dog until it became unresponsive. Deputies confirmed the animal had died by the time they arrived.

Detectives continue to investigate the case and are asking anyone with information to contact the West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station at 310-855-8850. Anonymous tips can be submitted by calling Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477, through the “P3 Tips” mobile app, or online.

KTLA has reached out to the Sheriff’s Department for additional details about the arrest and the ongoing investigation.
