MADISON COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) — One of the men charged with murder in the event center shooting that killed two women and injured nine others appeared in a Madison County courtroom Thursday for a youthful offender status hearing.

Trinton Bouldin was 17 years old when the shooting took place, and a circuit judge now has to decide if he will be tried as an adult.

Bouldin was escorted to the courthouse by Madison County Sheriff’s Deputies. The hearing lasted just under an hour, and the judge did not immediately rule on the request.

Bouldin has been charged with two counts of murder and two counts of first-degree assault. He is one of five people charged in this shooting.

Another defendant, Damarcus Thompson, is scheduled to have his youthful offender status hearing next month. A third person, Ja’quan Lewis, has already had his request for youthful offender status denied.

The Madison County Sheriff’s Office told News 19 at the time of the shooting that investigators recovered more than 200 shell casings from the crime scene. MCSO said multiple people fired those shots. Ultimately, two women died and nine other people were injured.

If Bouldin is given youthful offender status, he would face a maximum sentence of three years in prison. If he is tried as an adult and convicted of murder, he could face 20 years to a life sentence.

There is no set timetable for the judge to rule on whether or not Bouldin will get youthful offender status.

Boldin was arrested earlier this week on a marijuana charge. His bond status was revoked as part of Thursday’s hearing.
