Stunned patrons and staff at a Rosemead restaurant looked on as a woman was violently attacked by a man wielding what appeared to be a crowbar or a metal rod Monday night.
The incident unfolded just before 10:30 p.m. inside Sweet Treat Dessert House in the 8500 block of Valley Boulevard, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department confirmed to KTLA.
Footage of the difficult to watch violence shows an Asian woman running into a restaurant where at least six people were seated in booths as a masked man wearing a backwards baseball cap came through the door immediately after her.
Moments after the woman fell to the floor, the male repeatedly struck legs, seemingly swinging at full force and hitting her three times before immediately fleeing the restaurant.
When deputies arrived, they found the woman still on the ground, though she was conscious and breathing.
The victim told investigators that the suspect, whom she did not appear to know, had been walking behind her and raising the metal rod. Fearing for her safety, she ran into the restaurant where the brutal beating unfolded.
Deputies with LASD’s Temple Station searched the area for the suspect, described as an Asian male, approximately 30 years old dressed in all black clothing, but were unable to locate him.
Medical personnel with the Los Angeles County Fire Department responded to the scene and rushed the woman to the hospital by ambulance. Her condition was not immediately available.
The investigation remains ongoing and anyone with information is urged to contact LASD’s Temple Station detectives at 626-285-7131. Those wishing to remain anonymous can contact the L.A. Regional Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-222-8477 or leave tips online at www.lacrimestoppers.org.
