After an 0-3 start to the 2025 season, UCLA has decided to part ways with head football coach DeShaun Foster.

The news was announced Sunday – just hours after the Bruins lost 35-10 to the University of New Mexico. According to a school media release, Tim Skipper – the special assistant to the head coach – will serve as interim head coach for the remainder of the season.

This was due to be Foster’s second full season as UCLA head coach; however, two losses to start the season against Utah and UNLV put his position in jeopardy, and Saturday’s loss to New Mexico – a team UCLA actually paid to play them – appeared to be the final straw.

A Tustin High School graduate, Foster attended UCLA and became a standout student-athlete while with the Bruins in the early 2000s. After graduating, he enjoyed a seven-year career in the NFL before turning to coaching – he spent 11 years in the collegiate coaching ranks, including 10 at UCLA and one at Texas Tech. Before serving as head coach at UCLA, Foster was the running backs coach for the Bruins and also was associate head coach in 2023.

In his only full season as head coach, he led the Bruins to a 5-10 record.

School officials stated in the media release that the terms of Foster’s contract will be honored by UCLA Athletics exclusively using department-generated funds.

They also added that a “comprehensive search” for a new head coach is already underway.
