Hundreds gathered at the Huntington Beach Pier Sunday evening to honor the life of conservative podcast host Charlie Kirk, who was fatally shot during a Turning Point USA event at Utah Valley University on Sept. 10.
Attendees lit candles, waved flags, and shared memories of Kirk, the 31-year-old co-founder of Turning Point USA. The vigil, organized by local supporters and Turning Point USA affiliates, featured moments of silence, speeches, and songs reflecting on Kirk’s impact on conservative youth activism. Some participants waved white flags while others echoed chants honoring Kirk’s legacy.
Kirk was shot in the neck while speaking at Utah Valley University. His accused shooter, Tyler Robinson, 22, was apprehended within 33 hours and is now in custody facing multiple charges, including aggravated murder.
Many at the Huntington Beach vigil expressed solidarity with Kirk’s family and emphasized the importance of unity in the wake of political violence.
“This gathering isn’t just about mourning,” one attendee said. “It’s about coming together to remember a leader who influenced so many young people and to advocate for peace.”
The shooting has sparked nationwide condemnation and dialogue across political lines. Turning Point USA announced a public memorial service for Kirk, scheduled for Sept. 21 at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.
Across the country, similar vigils and memorials continue to draw participants, demonstrating the broad influence Kirk had on conservative political discourse and the continuing call for unity in the aftermath of his death. The Huntington Beach gathering reflected both grief and resolve, as attendees honored Kirk’s life and legacy with a message of remembrance and community solidarity.
