The FBI is now offering $100,000 for information leading to the identification, arrest and conviction of a man who appeared to have pointed a gun at federal agents during an immigration raid that took place over two months ago.

According to an FBI bulletin, the unknown individual “appeared to point a firearm and possibly fired a pistol” at the agents during a raid in Camarillo on July 10.

The raid, which targeted a marijuana grow farm, eventually escalated when demonstrators gathered at the site to protest the immigration sweep, which coincided with another simultaneous raid at the same marijuana grower’s Carpinteria location. Officers deployed tear gas and less-than-lethal rounds at crowds who blocked roadways and detained dozens of people.

It was announced the following day that around 200 workers were arrested in the two raids.

As tensions during the raid mounted, protesters were said to have hurled projectiles – including a Cal State Channel Islands professor charged with throwing a tear gas canister back at Border Patrol agents – at federal agents and, in the case of the man being sought by the FBI, may have aimed a weapon at them.

Since the man has yet to be identified or found, the initial $50,000 reward for information on his whereabouts has been doubled, the FBI announced Friday.

“The unknown male is believed to have been participating in a protest,” the agency’s Los Angeles Bureau said. “The FBI does not open investigations based of First Amendment protected activity [but] assaulting, resisting or impeding federal law enforcement performing their duties is a federal crime.”

Anyone with information concerning the case can contact the FBI via the following methods:

  • Via phone: 1-800-CALL-FBI (1-800-225-5324)
  • In person: Visit your local FBI office or the nearest American Embassy or Consulate
  • Online: Submit tips to tips.fbi.gov.
