Nuts to that!

Connecticut animal control officers are trying to track down the tasteless artists responsible for painting at least two innocent squirrels bright neon colors, according to authorities.

“We’ve got a report about two squirrels that appear to have been painted in the area of Naubuc Avenue and high Street,” East Hartford Animal Control posted on Facebook, Monday.

“They appear to be okay but we are looking to identify who is responsible for this.”

Photos showed one little bushy-tailed forest friend painted red and another snapped in blue as it snacked on a patch of grass in the Nutmeg State.

As of Friday there is still no suspect, but the comment section of animal control’s announcement provided a plethora of potential reasons the cute critters got coated.

“Nothing to see here, just a couple of gender reveal squirrels,” one commenter wrote.

“Great, now squirrels are getting involved in politics. This is getting out of hand,” another chimed in.

“The gang are recruiting squirrels now, they the only ones not afraid of east Hartford streets,” a jokester wrote adding several laughing emojis.

Animal activists have had great recent success rallying to the cause of squirrels.

Ongoing litigation with New York state could see the Empire pay out $10 million in damages to the owners of P’Nut the Squirrel and Fred the Racoon, who were summarily executed by glove-handed Environmental Conservation and Health department officers last October.
