Sydney Sweeney is an unstoppable force as Christy Martin in the official trailer for Christy.
The upcoming sports biopic, helmed by David Michôd, chronicles the life and career of the female boxing pioneer. The trailer begins with the West Virginia native first meeting with boxing promoter Don King (Chad L. Coleman), where she’s joined by her then-coach and future husband Jim Martin (Ben Foster) who’s 25 years her senior. Dressed in all pink, Christy emerges victorious in each bout, until she seemingly takes a loss.
During a tumultuous time in her personal life, where Christy deals with her abusive husband and sexuality, she contemplates the decision of moving back to West Virginia and losing her career. She also confides in her mother about the abuse, only to be gaslit. “Based on remarkable true events, Christy Martin’s story is one of resilience, courage, and the fight to reclaim one’s life,” the synopsis reads.
To play the role of the hall of famer, Sweeney underwent a physical transformation and spent months training, building muscle and gaining 30 pounds.
