Summary

  • Following his departure from Helmut Lang, Peter Do has launched a new label, PD-168, with a lower-priced, all-black line designed as a versatile uniform.
  • The collection, made from three machine-washable fabrics, features consistent materials and centers on a singular white tattoo line detail.

Almost a year after his departure from Helmut Lang, NYC-based designer Peter Do is switching gears with a new label called PD-168. While the PD is an obvious reference to the designer’s initials, 168 represents the total hours of the 7-day week — meaning Do wants you to wear these garments all day, every day. In fact, the designer himself said it best

The new line represents a versatile and dynamic uniform for everyday, hence the lower price points customers may notice. Comprising a range of all-black garments, adorned with nothing more than a white stripe inspired by one of Do’s tattoos, the designer told Vogue that he only used three fabrics across the line. From cotton terry to supple jersey and Japanese “liquid satin,” all of the garments are washing machine-friendly.

Tied together by the consistent materials and black-and-white colorways, the assortment is rooted in the most basic staples, including blank t-shirts and athletic pants. Elsewhere, the baggy padded blazer and the tailored jacket and coat represent the more design-forward styles, featuring extended trims, pleats, and sartorial details. Standing out in particular is the only graphic piece, a playful “THOT LEADER” tank that falls well in line with the statement graphic trend.

In an Instagram announcement, Do said, “PD-168 is a uniform envisioned to uplift creativity in all its forms.” The campaign video, filmed at the Brooklyn Museum and choreographed by Samuel Schler, reflects the ethos of the collection. The clothes are meant to be moved in, lived in, exercised, and danced in.

“The introductory lookbook, filmed in Saigon, Vietnam by Trisha Do features 28 creatives across all fields. Chefs, dancers, designers, researchers, artists, music producers, singers, art advisors, and more all wear PD-168 in the streets of the buzzing Vietnamese metropolis, underscoring the system’s singular ability to adapt to diverse practices while maintaining its integrity,” he added.

The inaugural PD-168 collection is available now for pre-order at the label’s official webstore.
