Summary

  • ‘Sake and a Dream’ opens Sept 12 at Zepster Gallery, Brooklyn
  • 11 artists reimagine Bobu the Bean Farmer with limited prints available

This fall, Zepster Gallery in Brooklyn will open its doors to Sake and a Dream: Artists’ Exploration of Bobu, a playful yet considered exhibition centered on a character beloved in anime and digital art circles. The show debuts September 12 and brings together 11 artists from across the globe who interpret Bobu the Bean Farmer, a sake-drinking figure rooted in Japanese cultural motifs and the decentralized anime universe of Azuki.

Curated by @digitalemissions, co-founder of @leagueoto, the exhibition marks his first independent curatorial project. Paintings and sculptures on view will merge digital sensibilities with traditional craft, each one refracting a different take on Bobu’s adventures and eccentric personality. The goal, according to organizers, is less about commodifying art and more about building out a mythos around the character.

In keeping with that ethos, participating artists were compensated in advance, lifting the financial burden of sales and encouraging a focus on experimentation. Each work will also be paired with digital print editions and showcased inside a virtual gallery, extending the reach to collectors outside Brooklyn.

Sales from the exhibition will be handled at cost, with any remaining funds reinvested into future projects. Works incorporate Physical Backed Token (PBT) technology for digital authentication, while limited edition prints will also be available to mint.

Sake and a Dream runs from September 12, 2025, at Zepster Gallery, Brooklyn, NY.
