Dane Glasgow, a pedigreed tech exec who has had executive stints at Google and most recently Meta, has been hired as Paramount‘s Chief Product Officer.
One of his main tasks will be to upgrade the experience for users and advertisers on Paramount+, a key theme of CEO David Ellison’s comments about his vision for Paramount’s $8 billion merger with Skydance.
In announcing the hire Wednesday, Paramount said Glasgow has “built and scaled multiple successful businesses across social, search, entertainment, commerce, communications, geospatial software, and finance.” According to his LinkedIn, Glasgow has been an exec at eBay and Microsoft and also co-founded and ran gaming company Neoglyphic Entertainment
Wall Street and Hollywood have questioned the ability of Paramount+ to level up to the top tier of subscription streaming, and speculation prior to the Skydance deal had centered on it potentially being merged into another service. But Ellison and his main financial backer, RedBird Capital’s Gerry Cardinale, have been bullish on the future of the service and have pledged to make significant investments in upgrading it.
In this new role, Glasgow will report directly to Ellison. He will lead the company’s “product vision and strategy, driving innovation across digital platforms, immersive storytelling, advertising, and AI-powered capabilities,” the announcement said. He will work closely with Cindy Holland, the Netflix vet tapped as Paramount’s head of direct-to-consumer.
“As we strive to push the boundaries of creativity and innovation, bringing on a leader of Dane’s caliber marks a pivotal step forward,” Ellison said. “Dane’s expertise is exactly what we need to strengthen every aspect of our business. We’re absolutely thrilled to welcome him to the team and excited for the forward-thinking leadership and technological insight he brings, and we know that his broad impact will be felt companywide starting on day one.”
Glasgow said entertainment and storytelling “inspired my passion for technology from a very young age. I am thrilled to become a part of Paramount, such an iconic company, which has been behind so many of the greatest stories told over the last century-plus. It’s truly inspiring to join David, along with Cindy and the other members of the executive leadership team, who not only value technology but empower innovation at every level.”
