Overcompensating is getting a second season on Prime Video.

Benito Skinner‘s comedy series was renewed Wednesday, following a few months of speculation. A renewal seemed to be on the horizon for Overcompensating after Prime Video’s Head of TV Vernon Sanders told Deadline in July that a Season 2 writers room had already opened to generate ideas.

The renewal will certainly elicit a sigh of relief from fans who were eager to find out where Benny and Carmen’s relationship stands after the uncomfortable cliffhanger at the end of Season 2.

“I have been so overwhelmed by the insane response to the show, and feel so damn lucky to go back to Yates University with Amazon MGM Studios, A24, Strong Baby, and this legendary cast for Season 2!! PLAY SUPER BASS :),” Benito Skinner said in a statement Wednesday.

Created, written, and executive-produced by Skinner, Overcompensating is a college-set ensemble comedy about the wild, chaotic journey of Benny (Skinner), a closeted former football player and homecoming king, as he becomes fast friends with Carmen (Wally Baram), a high school outsider on a mission to fit in at all costs.

With guidance from Benny’s older sister (Mary Beth Barone) and her campus-legend boyfriend (Adam DiMarco), Benny and Carmen juggle horrible hookups, flavored vodka, and fake IDs. Deeply funny and personal, the show explores the lengths to which we all overcompensate while on the path to finding out who we really are.

Season 1, which premiered in May, also included Holmes, Corteon Moore, Owen Thiele and Nell Verlaque in recurring roles. The first season’s recurring guest stars were Connie Britton, Kyle MacLachlan, Kaia Gerber, Julia Shiplett, Tommy Do, Alexandra Beaton, Claire Qute, Elias Azimi and Maddie Phillips. Andrea Martin also has a guest star role.

“We look forward to our global Prime Video customers enjoying more of Benito’s captivating and bold storytelling in the second season of Overcompensating,” Vernon Sanders, Global Head of Television at Prime Video & Amazon MGM Studios said in a statement of his own on Wednesday. “Working alongside the talented teams from A24 and Strong Baby has been a joy for everyone involved, and we are excited to see what hilarious moments Benito has planned for Season 2.”

Skinner will write, star, and executive produce the upcoming second season as well, per Amazon. Overcompensating is produced by A24, Strong Baby and Amazon MGM Studios.

Scott King serves as showrunner and executive producer. Jonah Hill, Matt Dines, and Ali Goodwin executive produce for Strong Baby. Josh Bachove and Daniel Gray Longino executive produce along with Charli XCX, who also serves as executive music producer.
