A woman and her male companion, both sporting Houston Texans jerseys during the Rams season opener on Sunday, were removed from SoFi Stadium, along with two other spectators, after a brawl broke out that left the woman’s face bloodied.
The incident occurred during the fourth quarter of the game in section 428, which sits high over the end zone.
The altercation appeared to start with words between the woman in the Texans jersey and a woman in a Rams jersey and then quickly escalated when the woman’s male companion poured a beer over the woman wearing the Rams jersey.
At that point, two spectators seated in the row behind that incident, both wearing Rams jerseys, got involved. At first, it appears the two spectators were trying to separate the parties fighting, but then the two women started throwing blows, a struggle that took them both to the ground.
The man in the Texans jersey is seen having words with one of the spectators when he lunges at the two women fighting and possibly throws blows at the woman in the Rams jersey, though in footage of the fight posted to X, it’s difficult to tell.
He is quickly yanked back from the two women fighting and immediately finds himself in an altercation with two Rams fans.
By the time security makes its way to the section, the brawl has ended, but the face of the woman in the Texans jersey is covered in blood as she and her male companion are escorted out of the stadium.
Security, according to reporting from the L.A. Times, returned, cuffed and removed the two involved Rams fans, who had taken off their jerseys.
It’s not the first time violence has broken out in the stands at SoFi Stadium since it opened in 2020.
Oakland-based chef and restaurant owner Daniel Luna was put into a medically induced coma after an altercation that broke out in the parking lot during the 2022 NFC Championship Game between the San Francisco 49ers and the L.A. Rams about a half hour after the game had gotten underway.
A 33-year-old L.A. man, Bryan Alexis Cifuentes, was arrested a week later on suspicion of assault to produce great bodily injury. Footage of the incident obtained by investigators showed the 33-year-old dropping Luna with one punch.
He pleaded not guilty, and investigators ultimately determined that it was Luna who had been drinking and was denied entrance to the stadium because he didn’t have a ticket, that initiated the fight by shoving Cifuentes.
At the L.A. Chargers season opener in 2024 against the Las Vegas Raiders, video captured a brutal fight between a shirtless man and a group of Chargers fans. There was also an on-field fight late in the fourth quarter between Chargers and Raiders players.
