President Donald Trump’s sudden return to Washington D.C. — as war mounts in Iran, an increasingly tight midterm election looms, and prices continue to rise for Americans nationwide — saw him summon a team of “top advisers,” photos show.
Getty photographer Graeme Sloan captured Trump’s return on Marine One after abruptly cutting short a Camp David weekend late Saturday night and sparking fears of an impending “major escalation” as the the U.S. Embassy in Israel issued a security alert to Americans in the Middle East.
“All Middle East US embassies have issued STEP alert warning to Americans in the region,” warned geopolitical expert Brett Erickson on Saturday. “This could certainly be a legitimate escalation.”
This may be why Meredith McGraw, White House reporter for the Wall Street Journal, expressed surprise by the faces she saw aboard Marine One in Sloan’s photograph capturing Trump’s return.
They were the faces of famous golfers.
“Looks like Trump flew back to the WH tonight from Camp David with Gary Player and Bryson DeChambeau,” McGraw told her followers.
Sloan’s caption does not mention Player, but does include another notable name: DeChambeau’s girlfriend, model Mikayla Demaiter.
Robyn J Leader, an attorney, replied to this update with scorn, writing, “In the midst of an escalating war he started and he’s hanging out with golfers.”
The Bulwark’s managing editor Sam Stein added, “Important to have your top advisors with you at critical global moments like this.”
