Miami Dolphins star receiver Tyreek Hill is already being swirled around in trade rumors.
This comes after Sunday’s ugly loss to the Indianapolis Colts, a game that saw Hill catch just four passes for 40 yards. Mike Florio, the NFL insider for NBC Sports, believes it’s now only a matter of time before the Dolphins cut ties.
“Here’s the point, for now,” Florio wrote. “If it (Dolphins struggles) continues, receiver Tyreek Hill will be this year’s Davante Adams. Although Hill is signed through 2026, he’s due to make $36 million next year — with a cap number of $51.89 million. It’s highly unlikely he’ll be back after 2025. So if the ship continues to sink, Hill becomes an asset that can be flipped into a draft pick.”
Monday was the one-year anniversary of Hill’s last catch of 30-plus yards in a game. While much of last season was a lost cause due to Tua Tagovailoa being injured, the Dolphins still aren’t throwing the ball downfield.
Florio listed two teams that should be interested in Hill if he were to be placed on the trade market.
“For now, there are two teams to watch,” Florio wrote. “First, the Chiefs. For obvious reasons. Hill starred in Kansas City until his desire for more money (and perhaps to not be in the shadow of Patrick Mahomes and/or Travis Kelce) sparked a trade. … Second, the Steelers. There’s already chatter, in the aftermath of Sunday’s win over the Jets, that the all-in Steelers could go even more all-in by making a move for Hill.”
Both teams would make sense as fits for Hill as they can use depth at the wide receiver position. However, this season is still very young. The Dolphins have a chance to bounce back on Sunday against the New England Patriots, which could lessen the panic currently happening in Miami.
