EXCLUSIVE: Recently launched Canadian production outfit Sauce Studios is talking to buyers at the TIFF market about new project Josephine The Blanket, which heralds from Dead Man’s Wire writer Austin Kolodney.
Kolodney will pen and make his directorial debut with Josephine The Blanket, described to us as a “genre-bending fantastical odyssey that follows a brilliant but depressed scientist who achieves her lifelong dream—transferring her consciousness into her cherished childhood blanket. With her human form in a coma, she gains newfound telepathic powers and must navigate the messy dynamics of her divorced parents while outwitting a shadowy government agency determined to weaponize her technology.”
Gus Van Sant-directed Dead Man’s Wire recently launched at the Venice and Toronto Film Festivals. Bill Skarsgård, Dacre Montgomery, and Colman Domingo star in the well-received film, which is inspired by the 1977 Tony Kiritsis hostage crisis.
Kolodney’s background spans comedy and genre work, having written and directed digital projects for SyFy, Funny Or Die, Comedy Central, and Universal Music Group, in addition to producing multiple indie features across budget tiers.
Newly launched Sauce Studios, founded by former MGM sales executive Tania Sarra, is the Toronto-based film and TV production and development company with satellite offices in Los Angeles.
