COLLINSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — Collinsville Police Chief Andy Brown is stepping down.

Chief Brown said that he met with Mayor Johnny Traffanstedt and incoming Mayor Jeff Chandler last week to inform them of his decision.

According to Chief Brown, stepping aside wasn’t an easy decision but it was one that had to be made with the best interest of his family and the City of Collinsville in mind.

You can read Chief Brown’s full statement below:

“While this has not been an easy decision for me to make, it is what I must do for my family, and the City of Collinsville. My girls deserve the best of their father, and for me to be more present. The city deserves a chief that can be 100% all the time. The City of Collinsville has been great to me over the past 3 years, and I am beyond grateful for the friendships I have made during my tenure here. There’s nothing personal for the reason of my resignation. The mayor, city council members, clerks, street department, fire department, and you all as citizens have became like family to me. I love, and appreciate you all, and as always, call me if you need me.”

Additionally, Chief Brown stated that he has accepted a position with the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office where his career began.
