After what the Detroit Lions went through last year, the team was likely relieved heading into Sunday’s Week 1 matchup against the division rival Green Bay Packers relatively healthy.

Detroit’s injury report was loaded with lots of defensive starters including linebackers Alex Anzalone, Malcolm Rodriguez, Pat O’Connor, and Jalen Reeves-Maybin, edge-rusher Aidan Hutchinson, defensive tackles Alim McNeil and D.J. Reader, and cornerback Carlton Davis.

The Lions only had two injury-related inactives on Sunday — running back Sione Vaki (hamstring) and linebacker Trevor Nowaske (elbow) — but early in the second half the team suffered its first major injury setback of the season when star cornerback Terrion Arnold exited the game with a groin injury.

Fans likely got a little more concerned when he didn’t reenter the game.

“#Lions Injury Update: CB Terrion Arnold (Groin) has been downgraded to Out,” the Lions announced on X.

Arnold was tied for the team-lead with six tackles and a pass defensed at the time of his injury.

If the 22-year-old CB misses any significant time, his loss is a gut punch to the Lions, who were already dealing with some depth questions in the secondary after placing CB Ennis Rakestraw on season-ending injured reserve earlier in the offseason and losing Davis to the New England Patriots in free agency.

With Arnold out, the Lions are down to just four cornerbacks — D.J. Reed, Amik Robertson, Khalil Dorsey, and Avonte Maddox.
