Philadelphia Eagles defensive star Jalen Carter landed in hot water with the NFL following his early ejection from Thursday’s game.

With the Eagles battling division rivals, the Dallas Cowboys, Carter got into quarterback Dak Prescott’s face as the two players exchanged words.

It’s unclear what was said, but the cameras caught Carter spitting on the opposing team’s quarterback. That replay showed it multiple times throughout the game to remind fans.

The referees also noticed it, and it was enough to warrant Carter’s ejection early in the first quarter.

Carter delivered an apology statement following the game, but he’s still awaiting a disciplinary decision from the league.

According to NFL Insider Adam Schefter at ESPN, sources indicated that Carter and the Eagles will learn his fate regarding a suspension or fine on Monday.

The expectation is that he’ll receive a fine, but he could also get hit with a suspension. ESPN indicated that any internal punishment for Carter would be kept within the organization.

His team went on to defeat Dallas in their season-opening game Thursday night to begin the season, 1-0.

“It was a mistake that happened on my side, and it just won’t happen again. I feel bad for my teammates and the fans out there. … It won’t happen again. I can make that promise,” Carter said postgame, per ESPN.

As mentioned, Carter’s incident occurred early in the first quarter of his team’s game. Reportedly, there is also footage that shows Prescott spit in the direction of Carter and the Eagles’ defense.

As Carter’s potential suspension looms, Philadelphia is preparing for a matchup against the team they beat in Super Bowl LIX, the Kansas City Chiefs, in Week 2.
