Detectives are investigating a tragic collision that left a 3-year-old boy dead on Friday evening in Long Beach, police confirmed.

The Long Beach Police Department said it was 6:27 p.m. when officers responded to a call regarding an injury traffic collision in the area of Artesia Boulevard and Rose Avenue, a busy traffic area in the Hamilton neighborhood.

Police arrived and began performing CPR on the little boy until relieved by Long Beach Fire Department personnel crews who then took over, rendering aid to the child.

Paramedics transported the toddler to a local hospital, where, despite life-saving efforts, he sadly succumbed to his injuries.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a man, whose identity was not immediately provided, was driving westbound on Artesia Boulevard when he struck the 3-year-old who had run into the street.

“The driver remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation,” stated LBPD. “Speed, distracted driving, and impaired driving do not appear to have contributed to this collision.”

Footage from the Citizen app showed a large law enforcement presence investigating a cordoned section of Artesia Boulevard, and an SUV with apparent front-end damage parked in front of the LB Collective located at 1731 E. Artesia Blvd.

Anyone who may have witnessed this collision is asked to contact Detective Dougherty at 562-570-7355. Anonymous tips may be submitted through “LA Crime Stoppers” by calling 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or by visiting: www.LACrimeStoppers.org.
