The future of Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James is very much up in the air. He is entering the final year of his contract with the team and retirement could be coming up in the near future as well.

Over the last month or two, there has been a lot of speculation about James. Could he leave the Lakers next offseason and finish his career with another team? Will he retire after the upcoming season or simply re-sign with Los Angeles?

No one knows what the future holds, but James and the Lakers will have some decisions to make following the 2025-26 NBA season.

With that in mind, there has also been speculation about what James will do following his basketball playing career.

Some have speculated that James could become a coach at some point in the future. He has now spoken out with his thoughts about coaching the game he has dominated so long.

James spoke out about his future in an interview with “Sports Scene” recently.

“No, no coaching for me,” James said. “I was inspired by the game. I love the game. But I don’t have coaching in my future.”

Fans can now cross off the idea of James becoming the latest NBA star that turns into a coach.

It will be very interesting to see how much longer James chooses to continue his playing career. He will be entering his 23rd season in the NBA. Even at 40 years old, he is still one of the best players in the league and is more than capable of taking games over.

With Los Angeles, Luka Doncic has become the face of the franchise. James leaving town would be a major change, but there are plenty of teams around the NBA who could be a good fit. Among those potential suitors could be the Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers.

Expect to continue hearing a lot of rumors and speculation about James’ future. Whether he re-signs with the Lakers, signs with another team, or retires, he has officially crossed out a potential coaching career down the road.
