Heading into Week 1 action, there have been a lot of questions about the playing status of San Francisco 49ers star running back Christian McCaffrey.
McCaffrey has been dealing with a calf injury this week leading up to the 49ers’ NFC West showdown against the Seattle Seahawks. Fans have been anxiously awaiting final word about whether or not he will be able to play.
That question has now been answered.

According to a report from ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, McCaffrey will play against the Seahawks. That is a huge relief for San Francisco as the team looks to get back on track after missing the playoffs last season.
Here is what Schefter had to share about McCaffrey in his report on X.
“49ers RB Christian McCaffrey, who was added to the injury report Thursday with a calf issue, will play today vs. the Seahawks,” Schefter wrote. “‘He’s good to go,’ said one source.”
Last season, McCaffrey was plagued by injury issues throughout almost the entire season. He played in just four games.
Just two short years ago, McCaffrey was an unstoppable force for the 49es. In the 2023 season, he played in 16 games, carrying the football 272 times for 1,459 yards and 14 touchdowns. Those numbers average out to 5.4 yards per carry. He also caught 67 passes for 564 yards and seven scores.
Hopefully, he is able to get back to that level of play during the 2025 season.
In order for San Francisco to get back to being a top-tier contender in the stacked NFC, it will need a healthy McCaffrey. Brock Purdy needs McCaffrey healthy as well in order to play to his full capability.

All of that being said, McCaffrey is good to go for this week’s game. It will be interesting to see how he looks.
Should he be able to play at 100 percent health to begin the year and stay that way throughout the entire 2025 season, the 49ers are going to be a legitimate threat and could end up being a Super Bowl contender at the end of the year.
