PHOENIX – A new state-of-the-art police dispatch center is open and operating in Avondale after a ribbon cutting ceremony was held on Sept. 2.

The overall project cost just over $4.5 million.

A new training room for dispatchers, a nursing and respite room for parenting needs and mental wellness, along with an expansion from six workstations to 10 are all part of the revamped building.

“The Avondale Police Department is proud to announce a state-of-the-art, brand-new Avondale Police Communication Dispatch Center to help our staff thrive in their workplace by providing them with the newest innovative technology, creating an enjoyable atmosphere, while proudly serving our community,” Avondale Police Chief Memo Espinoza said in a statement.

“These enhancements will improve officer safety and efficiency with public services throughout Avondale. The communication center reflects our promise to serve alongside our residents, businesses and visitors by working together to ensure a safe and thriving community.”

How much bigger is the Avondale Police Communication Dispatch Center

The renovations to the building near the intersection of Van Buren Street and Avondale Boulevard add 2,288 square feet of space, an expansion of nearly 45% to the dispatch operations area.

“Our dispatchers are dedicated to getting help to those in need as quickly as possible. With the new space, we will be able to fully utilize updated technologies and training facilities, ensuring we exceed expectations and continue serving our community at the highest level,” Communications Manager Angela Destin said in a release.
