The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office is searching for those responsible for shooting and killing a 17-year-old boy in Coachella and seriously wounding two other teenagers.
Deputies were dispatched to the 49000 block of Corte Molino at 3:45 a.m. Saturday for an assault with a deadly weapon call, RCSO said in a media release. The address provided by authorities is located in a cul-de-sac within a neighborhood near Avenue 50 and Frederick Street.
When the deputies from the Thermal Station arrived at the scene, they found that three juveniles had been shot.
“Deputies rendered medical aid until paramedics arrived, and despite lifesaving measures, one of the victims succumbed to his injuries at the scene,” RCSO’s media release states. “The other two victims were transported to local hospitals for medical treatment in critical condition.”
The two teens who were transported were not immediately identified; however, the sheriff’s office identified the teen who was killed as 17-year-old Alberto Castillo Jr., a Coachella resident.
Authorities were not able to provide a description of a suspect or suspects involved in the shooting, and no further information surrounding the investigation was released.
Anyone with information surrounding the incident is urged to contact Master Investigator Castaneda with RCSO’s Central Homicide Unit (951-955-2777) or Thermal Station Investigator Glasper (760-863-8990).
