When the Green Bay Packers pulled off the blockbuster trade to acquire Micah Parsons from the Dallas Cowboys in exchange for two first-round picks and Kenny Clark, their Super Bowl odds immediately jumped. However, there are some concerns about Parsons due to the back injury he is dealing with.
Parsons is currently working through an L4/L5 facet joint sprain in his back. While it isn’t something serious, it could force him to manage the injury throughout the 2025 season.
Leading up to Week 1 against the Detroit Lions, there have been a lot of questions about Parsons’ status. Will he play against the NFC North rival? How much will he play if he is able to give it a go?

Now, there is a new update that has shared some good but disappointing news about Parsons’ likely availability this weekend.
According to Matt Schneidman of The Athletic, Parsons is indeed expected to play against the Lions. Unfortunately, he is expected to be on a snap count and will not be able to play the full amount he would like to play.
“Nobody within the organization has definitively said Parsons is playing Sunday — he’s been limited in practice Wednesday and Thursday because of a back injury suffered this summer lifting while a Dallas Cowboy — but he’ll likely be on a snap count,” Schneidman wrote.
Going up against the Detroit offense is no easy task. Even though former offensive coordinator Ben Johnson is no longer in town, the Lions are still loaded with talent.
Led by Jared Goff, the passing game is dangerous. Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams will be major forces to be reckoned with. On the ground, Detroit will again feature both Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery.

Having Parsons on the field will be a major key for the Packers this season. With quite a few questions in the secondary, Green Bay’s pass rush will need to put pressure on opposing quarterbacks, make them get the ball out early, and force mistakes.
Hopefully, the injury isn’t something that will linger throughout the entire 2025 season. It seems likely that he’ll be on a snap count in Week 1, but simply having him on the field should help. Parsons will have all eyes on him at kickoff on Sunday afternoon.
