A 10-year-old boy has melted hearts across the internet after his mom discovered he had been secretly watching her and his dad leave each other love notes.

The moment, shared in a TikTok video, reveals the powerful impact that small, consistent acts of kindness can have on a child. Lisa Goebel, 46, shared the photo of a note on her fridge from her son, reading: “Hey mom, here’s a thank you gift for being the best mom, and good morning, I love you.”

Goebel spoke to Newsweek about the discovery, and how touched she is to see her children follow the example she and her husband are setting for them.

A Family Tradition of Kindness

Goebel revealed that the tradition of leaving notes started years ago. As a mom to three older boys, she always used to leave special notes in their lunches. When she remarried, it felt natural to continue the tradition with her husband. Her husband never throws them away, and over time, the boys began to notice their parents’ love.

“We never thought much of it…until it clicked with this TikTok video,” Goebel said. She described how the notes were not just on paper, but sometimes even written with leftover chocolate or candy. These “random spouts of love” became a natural part of their family life.

Goebel was particularly touched when her son left yet another note wishing her ease from her back pain.

“It made me smile and laugh because he mentioned my back,” she said. Goebel had been dealing with a back injury for months, and her son had noticed her struggle.

“Him noticing and wanting me to have a ‘great’ day and not just a ‘good’ day melted my heart,” Goebel said. “All I could do was hug him and tell him how much I love his heart.”

The Power of a Loving Home

The notes are more than just a sweet gesture; they are a sign to Goebel and her husband that they are parenting how they always hoped to. All four of her boys have left notes over the years, especially when she has been sick, showing their compassion and kindness.

“My heart is full,” Goebel said. “With each note left from any of my boys…it lets me know that we did something right.”

For her, the most meaningful part of the tradition is knowing that her boys have had the “privilege to experience what a loving marriage should look like.” She believes that her husband has been an amazing role model for her sons, showing them what it truly means to love someone.

“Nothing is perfect,” Goebel admitted. “We are a very real couple who have had its share of life’s ups and downs…but it’s how we navigated it all to end up here—that is the beauty of what our boys get to witness.”
