The Kansas City Chiefs have just kicked off their season opener against the Los Angeles Chargers in Brazil. However, they have already been handed a major injury scare in the form of wide receiver Xavier Worthy.
Early in the first quarter, Worthy collided with Chiefs’ star tight end Travis Kelce. He went down hard and was immediately taken off the field and into the locker room.
While there is no telling how serious the injury is at this point in time, it’s a scare nonetheless.

Worthy is expected to be a massive part of the Kansas City offense this season. His playmaking ability opens up the field for superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Without him available, the Chiefs’ offense would be much less dangerous.
If Worthy is forced to miss some time, what would Kansas City do? Would the team consider bringing in a replacement option?
That is exactly what NFL insider Josina Anderson has suggested. She took to X immediately after the Worthy injury and suggested that Odell Beckham Jr., who is in attendance for the game, could be a player the Chiefs look at.
“If the injury is significant, and they need to turn to a free agent WR, OBJ is in attendance,” Anderson wrote on X. “Worthy has left the field for examination.”
Hopefully, this doesn’t even have to be a consideration. In an ideal world, Worthy will either get back on the field in Friday night’s game against the Chargers or be back by Week 2.
Beckham would be an interesting target for Kansas City. He is no longer the star that he once was earlier in his career, but in the right offense he could still be a legitimate target. Playing alongside Mahomes would certainly be of interest to him if he’s still looking to play football.

Last season, Beckham played in nine games with the Miami Dolphins. He caught just nine passes for 55 yards. However, back in 2023 with the Baltimore Ravens, he racked up 35 receptions for 565 yards and three touchdowns in 14 games.
It will be interesting to hear more news about what Worthy is dealing with. All that fans can do now is to wait anxiously until another update is provided.
