The Miami Dolphins and head coach Mike McDaniel face a ton of pressure entering a new season.

McDaniel and the Fins finished last season 8-9 as Miami missed the playoffs. With a healthy Tua Tagovailoa, the Dolphins are expecting to at least push for a wild-card spot. Former quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick, who spent two seasons with Miami, revealed what needs to happen for the team to have success.

“For them to have a good year this year and specifically for your guy McDaniel, it’s like Tyreek (Hill) and (Jaylen) Waddle have to go for 1,500 yards,” Fitzpatrick said on the Fitz and Whit podcast. “Both of them, they got to stay healthy. (Achane’s) got to stay healthy and they got to be able to put a defense on the field, especially a secondary on the field that’s going to be able to produce some stops.”

Despite a dip in his numbers last season, 1,500 yards isn’t out of the possibility list for Hill. Whether or not he is able to do it will come down to Tagovailoa’s health as Hill is a different player with and without his star quarterback.

Waddle, on the other hand, would need to have the best season of his career to reach 1,500 yards. He’s never posted more than 1,356 yards, which he did back in 2022, and he’s been on a decline since then.

Health is going to be the dealbreaker for the Dolphins this year. If Tagovailoa stays healthy, Hill and Waddle should have strong seasons. Otherwise, it’ll be a repeat of misery this year in Miami.
