HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — Shortly after Sen. Tommy Tuberville announced he was setting his sights on the governor’s office, Republicans from across Alabama stepped forward, saying they wanted to be the next person elected to the Senate.

One of those candidates, Jared Hudson, spent time in north Alabama this week. Hudson sat down with News 19 to discuss his reasons for running for Senate.

“For me, it’s just a continuation of my service,” Hudson said.

Hudson is a strong supporter of President Trump, and he applauds the job Tuberville has done in the Senate.

“With Coach Tuberville stepping away, I wanted to step in and make sure that Senator Britt had a partner, had somebody that could work alongside her to make sure that we continue to bring legacy to Alabama,” said Hudson.

Hudson, who is a retired Navy SEAL and law enforcement officer, now works as a small business owner while serving as the founder & CEO of Covenant Rescue Group, an organization that fights human trafficking and child exploitation.

Hudson said he is ready to take that experience to Washington and give a voice to workers across Alabama.

“As Alabamians, we bring a lot to the table for this nation,” Hudson said. “It doesn’t matter if you’re in agriculture as a farmer, if you’re in the aerospace industry, here in Huntsville, at Redstone Arsenal. If you’re in law enforcement, if you’re in the military, if you’re in shipbuilding in South Alabama, or economic revitalization in Birmingham, wherever you’re at, you bring a lot to the table.”

As a senator, Hudson said he would prioritize a strong southern border, defend Christian values and support veterans.

Hudson will face at least three other candidates in the Republican primary race for Senate. Two who will appear on the ballot have experience in politics.

Steve Marshall has served as Alabama’s attorney general since 2017. Rep. Barry Moore spent years in the statehouse before he was elected to Congress. The third candidate, Rodney Walker, is a cattle farmer and businessman from Talladega.

Three democrats have also announced their intention to run for the seat. The primary election will take place on May 19.
