ALABAMA (WHNT) – Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall has responded to a post made by Colorado’s Attorney General regarding the new location for U.S. Space Command.

The initial post from Colorado AG Phil Weiser followed President Donald Trump’s announcement that USSPACECOM would be moving from its provisional headquarters at Peterson Space Force Base in Colorado Springs to Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville.

Weiser released a statement Tuesday, stating that if the Trump administration makes the move to Huntsville, he would “be prepared to challenge it in court.” You can read the entire statement below:

“The Trump administration should not play political games with our nation’s military readiness and military families. Moving Space Command Headquarters to Alabama is not only wrong for our national defense, but it’s harmful to hundreds of Space Command personnel and their families. These El Paso County residents are our neighbors. They relied on the federal government’s decision to keep Space Command HQ in Colorado Springs – they bought homes for their families, selected schools for their children, and have contributed to the local economy.

The Colorado Attorney General’s Office has been preparing in the event the president made such an unlawful decision to move Space Command HQ. If the Trump administration takes this step – I’m prepared to challenge it in court.”

Marshall shot back on X by quoting the post, saying, “Guess we’ll have to settle this in court. Spoiler: we’re not sweating it. Let’s agree in advance that you owe us attorneys’ fees when we win?”

Earlier on Wednesday, Marshall made a social media post stating, “U.S. Space Command is going to be in Alabama where it belongs. President Trump Cut through Biden’s political games and followed the facts. Redstone Arsenal is the best choice. Now let’s focus on what matters: national security, supporting mission readiness and the warfighter.”
