Just as Chicago Cubs outfielder Kyle Tucker seemed to be returning to form, an exit from Tuesday’s 4-3 win has fans worried again.

It was announced Tuesday night that Tucker had exited Chicago’s game due to left calf tightness. Tucker spoke to the media after the game and gave an update on his injury status.

“As the game went, just got a little more sore … I’d rather not try and test this much further and make it any more than it really is,” Tucker told reporters via a video on X from Marquee Sports Network.

Tucker also revealed during his media session that the soreness was something he’d been dealing with for a few days. He’s been receiving treatment prior to games in hopes of being game ready.

Manager Craig Counsell has also ruled out Tucker playing in Wednesday’s game, citing the scheduled off day for Chicago on Thursday.

“We’re gonna use Wednesday and the off day to see where we’re at. “We’ll see where he’s at Friday,” Counsell told reporters via a video on X from Marquee Sports Network.

Tucker had just recently snapped out of a slump that lasted well over a month. He entered Tuesday slashing .311/.415/.600 with seven extra-base hits and eight RBI over his last 15 games. His re-emergence as a power threat in the Cubs lineup has propelled them to winning four of their last five series.

With Chicago trying to chase down the division leading Milwaukee Brewers, Tucker in the lineup is almost must-needed at this point. Obviously, the Cubs do not want to jeopardize the health of Tucker for a potential deep postseason run.

With a weekend series against the Washington Nationals on deck, it may be wise for Tucker to get two or even all three games of that series off to fully heal before a stretch run that includes three series against teams .500 or better.
