MADISON COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) — The Madison County Sheriff’s Office has announced the dates for the Fall session of its 2025 Citizens Sheriff’s Academy.

MCSO has announced it will hold the academy beginning on Oct. 7 and conclude it with the graduation ceremony on Nov. 18.

The course includes over 20 hours of instruction with classes meeting on Tuesdays from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. each week for seven weeks.

The sheriff’s office said the course will go over the following topics:

  • Patrol Division Overview
  • Community Policing Initiatives
  • Crisis Management and Response
  • Forensic Science and Technology
  • Tactical Response Unit (SWAT)
  • Corrections
  • Laws and the Alabama Court System
  • Sheriff’s Office Organization and Staffing
  • Criminal Investigations Unit and Crime Scene Unit

MCSO said participants must be 21 years old, live in Madison County and be able to pass a criminal background check.

“This program is about transparency, education, and building trust. We want citizens to walk away with a true understanding of how the Madison County Sheriff’s Office operates, the challenges we face, and the pride we take in serving this community,” Sheriff Kevin Turner said. “We look forward to welcoming you to the 2025 Sheriff’s Citizens Academy.”

The deadline to apply for the academy is Sept. 12. If you are interested in the Sheriff’s Citizens Academy, you can apply here or contact MCSO PIO Brent Patterson at [email protected].
