Foreign Minister Wadephul kicks off India visit in Bengaluru
German Foreign Minister arrived in the southern Indian city of Bengaluru on Tuesday at the start of a between and .
“The advancement of our strategic partnership has great potential, from security cooperation to technology and innovation, to the acquirement of skilled workers,” Wadephul wrote on social media, having described India on Monday as a “central global partner” when it comes to Germany’s economic and strategic ambitions.
“We want to deepen our relationship across all sectors and strengthen it in those areas where there is untapped potential,” he continued. “We want to sign off on the planned free trade agreement between India and the as quickly as possible in order to take our economic relations to the next level.”
In Bengaluru, known as India’s “Silicon Valley” due to its booming IT industry, Wadephul is expected to meet Indian students studying German at the local Goethe Institut before visiting the headquarters of India’s space agency, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).
After visiting Indian branches of major German firms including and , Wadephul will travel onwards to New Delhi, where political meetings are scheduled for Wednesday.
