HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — It’s not just about lifting weights or logging miles; at Barre3 Huntsville, it’s strength for the body, calm for the mind and community.

“This is all about functional fitness, functional movements that not only we do in the studio, but outside the studio,” Barre3 Owner Amanda Deason said.

Deason said it’s the small movements that make a big difference in Barre3 classes. She added that each instructor is encouraged to lead a transformative workout for all ages, focused on strengthening the muscles used in everyday life.

“No matter where you are in your fitness journey, this workout is very beneficial for all bodies,” Deason said. “We promote mobility, endurance and strength so that you have a long life, a long, healthy life.”

The workout is a little strength training, a little pilates, and everything in between. Deason said that is one aspect that makes it stand out among other workouts and studios.

“The unique thing about Barre3 is that we offer modifications which make it accessible for anyone. However, we empower you to be able to choose to go deeper, so that way, it is a challenge,” Deason said.

But don’t let the name fool you; it is not a ballet-centered program.

“The way that we utilize the bar in our classes is mostly as a prop. We work mostly in the center of the room,” Deason said. “And if there’s a time of feeling unbalanced or unsteady, you can always find the bar for that extra support.”

McCamy Holloway, both an instructor and member at Barre3, said it’s the flexible workouts and being surrounded by a supportive group of people that keep her coming back.

“I have the encouragement of the other clients in class with me to work harder and stick with it and not give up,” Holloway said. “The way I feel walking out is always better than the way I feel walking in.”

For some, the workout is more than just exercise. One long-time member said it helped her find the strength after becoming a mom.

“I started coming when I was post-partum with my fourth child, and it was just so good for my body. I got stronger,” Schannel Patton said.

That’s what makes Barre3 more than just a workout; it’s movement with a meaning.
