Miles is coming off a solid campaign, one that saw the Miners go 10-3 overall and 8-0 In conference play. After starting the 2024 season with back-to-back losses, 16-15 against West Alabama and 24-3 against Alabama State, Miles ripped off 10 wins in a row to qualify for the D-2 playoffs, where the Miners even secured a win, defeating Carson Newman 14-13, before they fell 33-17 to end their season at the hands of No. 1 Valdosta State. Even so, it was a historic season for the Miles program, one that it will look to build upon in 2025.
Virginia Union likewise enjoyed an impressive season, going 10-4 overall and 6-1 in conference play. Virginia Union even won the CIAA championship, taking down a Virginia State team that had defeated it 35-28 the week prior. The program bounced back in the CIAA championship game, defeating Virginia State 17-13, before then reeling off two D-2 playoff wins, 34-31 in overtime against Wingate University, and 44-12 against Lenoir-Rhyne University, before it fell likewise to No. 1 Valdosta State, 44-19, to end its season.
