A Seattle woman has shared the hilarious way her dog remembers their old drinking trips—even though she quit alcohol two years ago.

In a clip on TikTok with more than 700,000 views, Madi shared the moment her dog Margot attempted to pull her toward the late-night venue they once frequented together.

The text overlay on the video read: “My dog at 8 a.m. trying to drag me to the bar we used to go to before I stopped drinking almost two years ago.”

While in the caption she added: “My little enabler.”

Madi, who did not give a surname, told Newsweek: “The owner of the bar would bring her a plate of treats immediately when we used to go in.”

The golden retriever mix was quite insistent in the video, pulling toward the bar from across the street, leaving Madi in stitches.

“She’s done this for years and I always think it’s good I’m not tempted because she’s so insistent,” Madi said.

Internet Reacts

As the video gained viral attention, people couldn’t get enough of the hilarious moment.

“God forbid he wants to partake in a little day drinking. It’s not like he has to drive anywhere,” one commenter joked. While another quipped: “He’s said you’re sober not me.”

Someone else dubbed Margot an “unaccountability partner,” while another joked that she is a “disservice dog.”

One viewer even asked if the dog’s behavior had ever triggered Madi’s cravings. She replied: “Tbh I think it took me a bit longer to quit initially, but now it’s not tempting at all and I just find it funny.”

This isn’t the first time a dog has made a hilarious demand during a walk. Last year a golden retriever stopped still at a local café, demanding his favorite pup cup. The only problem? The café hadn’t opened yet.

Alcohol Consumption in the U.S. Is Declining

Madi’s story comes amid a broader national shift in drinking habits. A recent Gallup poll found that just 54% of U.S. adults say they consume alcohol—the lowest percentage recorded in nearly 90 years of tracking.

The decline has been particularly steep among women, whose reported drinking fell 11 percentage points in just one year, down to 51%. The survey also revealed that for the first time a majority of Americans (53%) now believe that moderate drinking, defined as one or two drinks per day, is bad for one’s health.

From 1974 to 1981, alcohol consumption was at historic highs, with up to 71% of Americans saying they drank. Today’s drop reflects not just changing social behaviors but also increased awareness of alcohol’s health risks.
