A high school chemistry teacher was arrested this week in Newbury Park on suspicion of child exploitation crimes. Authorities identified the man as 40-year-old Kevin John Reynolds of Newbury Park, and investigators called the alleged offenses among the most disturbing crimes they confront.
On Aug. 27, 2025, agents with the DA’s Bureau of Investigation Child Exploitation Unit, working alongside the FBI and the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office, executed a search warrant at Reynolds’ home. The move followed an undercover operation aimed at identifying individuals suspected of downloading and distributing child sexual abuse material.
Inside the residence, investigators seized multiple computers and external hard drives. Reynolds was taken into custody at the scene on suspicion of possession and distribution of CSAM and booked into the Ventura County Main Jail, officials said.
“The sexual exploitation of our children is one of the most disturbing crimes our investigators confront,” Chief Investigator Scott Whitney said in a statement. “Our investigators work tirelessly to identify and arrest those who seek to harm the most vulnerable members of our community.”
The Fillmore Unified School District and the Fillmore Police Department were notified immediately, authorities said. Court records show Reynolds’ bail was set at $50,000, which he posted. He is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 10, 2025.
