PHOENIX — While meteorological summer ends on Sunday, temperatures are still above triple digits and causing problems on Valley trails.

Two hikers suffering from heat exhaustion had to be rescued by firefighters on Camelback Mountain and South Mountain, respectively, on Saturday.

Both rescues occurred at 9:30 a.m. when temperatures were 93 degrees, showing that heat-related dangers can present themselves well before the hottest time of the day.

Hiker rescued from South Mountain

The first hiker was a man suffering from heat exhaustion who could not make it down South Mountain on his own.

Despite cooling measures provided by medical personnel, the man had to be guided down the trail by a big wheel stretcher.

He was taken to the hospital for further evaluation.

Hiker rescued on Camelback Mountain

Rescue crews were simultaneously sent to the Echo Canyon Trail on Camelback Mountain for a woman who was suffering from a knee injury.

Upon further evaluation, it was determined that she had overheated as well and could not make it back down the mountain.

She was also guided down via big wheel stretcher and taken to the hospital in stable condition.

Phoenix forecast

The forecast in Phoenix projects high temperatures to reach triple digits every day through Thursday.

In Phoenix, the average high temperature is 100 degrees or higher through Sept. 17.
